Colchuck Peak Cascades, Washington May 23, 2009 Dave and Jill |
| Jill wanted to climb a route with a red line, so here it is. This was taken a couple days later from Cashmere Mt and shows frozen Colchuck Lake and most of the route to the summit of Colchuck Peak. |
Jill and I had been living in Leavenworth for over a month in a guest cottage on Icicle Road. Most of our time was spent trail running and rock climbing, but once I realized that I was just as slow on the trail and weak on the rock we decided to do a slog in the hills. It was truly a dream come true to have a trailhead to a place like this only 15 minutes from our house. Hopefully next year we'll back... on skis.

| Jill makes her way up the most memorable
portion of the route - on the glacier and beneath the huge, slabby north
side of Dragontail Pk.

| On the summit with
Mt Stuart
looming in the background.
| Spring came early to the Pacific NW.
Clear evidence of this fact is shown here - Jill on top of a mountain in
short sleeves.

Taking the easy way back down the glacier.

| Matt had just returned from South America and
wanted to get out. Unfortunately the snow was mush, so we ended up
just going for a snowshoe to a nice camp on Mt Shuksan.
| Matt saddles his pack ready to resume the
mush, and destruction of the skin track.
| Stomping out a platform above Baker Lake. We had plans for a summit bid, but the clouds came in which gave us a good excuse to sleep in instead. |
